About 505
|
Several years ago, a group of students met together to explore an idea. They wanted to reach their campus for Christ.
Over 30,000 students attend UGA and only a very small percentage of them are currently involved in some type of ministry. Their vision became a reality and 505 was born, with many students coming together to lay the groundwork for an exciting ministry opportunity in Athens.
Originally meeting in one apartment, it was the desire of this original group of leaders to see college students grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Meeting on Sunday evenings at 505pm, the student leaders wanted 505 to be a place where fellow students would be impacted by God's truth and encouraged by God's people. While those original students have moved on, our current leadership team leaders seek to continue to provide an atmosphere where students from all backgrounds feel welcome. Building a community in which there is genuine caring and concern for one another isn't always easy. But, this is the desire of those leading 505. In the words of Christ, our goal at 505 is to "love one another" just as He loves us. Not just at a periodic event, but as a lifestyle.
505 soon outgrew the small apartment and began meeting in larger venues. This semester, 505 will undergo a new direction. 505 will offer a combination of several different environments. We will continue to meet monthly in a large gathering on campus. In addition, smaller groups of students will meet weekly at various apartments on the UGA Campus. You can find more details as well as our meeting dates and locations on our website.
Come as you are. Come with a friend. Come by yourself. Sit in the back and remain "anonymous" or jump right in. We'd love to have you check things out. We're not perfect. We don't have ALL the answers. We'll probably even experience some "growing pains" as we transition to the new format this year. But we do believe we have something exciting to offer. We would be honored if you'd join us.
If you've got questions about your relationship with God (or even wonder if He is real), then please come and check out 505. If you've been looking for a place where you can serve others in community at UGA, then this might be the place for you. In other words, 505 is not a "clique", it's a community of people who care about their fellow students.
If you have questions, please go to our Contacts page on this site and drop us a note. The photos and e-mail addresses of our leaders are posted there for your convenience.
